State Medicaid programs will spend $1.6 trillion on long-term care expenses over the next twenty years, according to a new study released today by America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP). When Federal matching funds are included, total government expenditures on long-term care will exceed $3.7 trillion. Medicaid spending for long-term care will grow at a faster rate than overall health care spending, faster than Medicare, and faster than the national Gross Domestic Product.

Today, Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley’s Office has settled with Walgreens Co. (“Walgreens”) over allegations of billing improprieties. Under the terms of the settlement, Walgreens will pay $3,537,720.94 to the Massachusetts Medicaid Program, a program which provides funds for health care products and services to eligible low-income individuals, including people with disabilities, children and elder citizens.

The Connecticut State Medical Society has released the results of a statewide Physician Workforce Survey funded by a grant from Universal Health Care Foundation of Connecticut. The survey is the first to measure state physicians’ attitudes about their work and about medical practices in general. The survey results revealed several challenges that affect health care access in Connecticut.
